Ghana feels the repercussion on USAID crackdown by Trump with a budget deficit of $156 million

Countries worldwide continue to grapple with the repercussions of the US administration’s severe actions against its largest development and humanitarian aid organization, USAID.

Ghana has particularly felt the impact, facing a shortfall of $156 million in its national budget due to the cessation of US development assistance.

In response, President John Mahama has directed Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson to explore options for bridging the funding gap resulting from the suspension of USAID initiatives, as stated by the president’s office.

American development aid has played a vital role in supporting Ghana’s health and agricultural sectors.

USAID has been instrumental in establishing a sophisticated national surveillance system for HIV and sexually transmitted infections, as well as initiatives aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Ghanaian agricultural businesses in both regional and global markets.
