Hip-hop star Akon was briefly jailed last Friday in Chamblee, Georgia, after being arrested for failing to appear in court over a traffic violation, according to local police records. He was released on bail the same day.
The arrest traces back to a September 10 incident in Roswell, where officers found the singer whose legal name is Aliaune Thiam stranded in a disabled Tesla Cybertruck on a busy road. A background check revealed his driver’s license had been suspended due to a missed court appearance in January 2023, and he lacked valid auto insurance.
Police impounded the vehicle and issued a citation. When Thiam failed to appear in court for that citation, a warrant was issued. His arrest came after a traffic camera flagged the impounded Cybertruck at a local business.
Following his arrest by Chamblee police, Thiam was transferred to Roswell authorities and booked into jail before posting bail.
Despite the legal hiccup, the Grammy-nominated artist known for hits like “Smack That” and “Locked Up” continued his tour schedule, performing in Delhi, India, just two days later.
His representatives have not yet commented on the incident.
