Ghanaian music icon Shatta Wale has been detained amid a tax investigation surrounding his purchase of a yellow Lamborghini, which was seized earlier this month at the request of U.S. authorities. The car is allegedly connected to a criminal network involving convicted fraudster Nana Kwabena Amuah, currently serving a seven-year sentence in the U.S.
Wale’s management insists the detention is solely related to “tax obligations” and confirmed the artist voluntarily appeared before Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). Wale denies any ties to Amuah, claiming he is a third-party owner of the $150,000 vehicle and unaware of its shipment details.
EOCO has stated the Lamborghini will be returned to the U.S. to assist in compensating Amuah’s victims, who were defrauded through impersonation schemes targeting nearly 70 organizations. The seizure forms part of a wider crackdown on a $100 million international fraud ring.
Wale’s team has urged fans to stay calm, assuring that his legal representatives are actively working with authorities to resolve the matter.
