Finland’s President Alexander Stubb is currently on a historic three-day state visit to Kenya, marking the first time a Finnish head of state has visited the African nation.
On Monday, the two countries formalized their partnership by signing two agreements focused on political consultations, peace mediation, and conflict resolution.
During a press conference following their discussions, Stubb and Kenyan President William Ruto reiterated their shared commitment to advancing the Kenya-European Union Economic Partnership Agreement, which became effective in July 2024.
Stubb praised Kenya for its influential role in global peace and conflict resolution efforts. He stated, ‘Whether it is Russia’s aggression in Ukraine or challenges in the Middle East, Kenya has consistently been a cornerstone of peace, which is why I am particularly pleased to have signed the memorandum of understanding related to peace mediation.’

Additionally, Stubb expressed his desire for enhanced economic collaboration with Kenya, noting, ‘I am also pleased to see a significant business delegation present today, as I believe fostering business interests and cooperation is a positive path forward.’
Ruto, in turn, highlighted that Finland’s strengths in education, technology, renewable energy, and climate action are well-aligned with Kenya’s developmental goals.
