The Trump administration has introduced a program that incentivizes undocumented immigrants to voluntarily leave the United States by offering them $1,000.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy for mass deportations. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that this self-deportation option is the safest and most economical method for individuals to exit the country without facing arrest.
Additionally, the government will provide travel assistance to help migrants return to their home countries.
Payments will be issued once their departure is verified through an application called CBP Home, which also offers users a lower priority for detention and removal.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that the first individual has already accepted this offer, securing a flight from Chicago to Honduras.
While Trump has made immigration enforcement a key focus of his administration, the costs associated with detaining and deporting individuals remain high, averaging over $17,000 per person.

The new self-deportation initiative has faced criticism regarding its effectiveness, with Texas Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett labeling it a mere financial incentive rather than a legitimate policy.
Despite Trump’s claims of executing the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, the actual number of deportations has not met his initial promises.
