Following his visits to Uganda and Burundi, Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxime Prévot wrapped up his tour of the Great Lakes region in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
On Monday, April 28, he held discussions in Kinshasa with Congolese Prime Minister Judith Suminwa and President Félix Tshisekedi, focusing on the ongoing crisis with Rwanda.
During this visit, Prévot addressed the conflict in eastern DRC, acknowledging the positive efforts made by Qatar and the United States that led to a preliminary agreement between Kinshasa and the M23 rebels, as well as between Kinshasa and Kigali.
However, he urged caution regarding these diplomatic steps, emphasizing the importance of evaluating the actual outcomes in the near future to ensure that progress is sustained without significant hurdles.

Prévot highlighted that, unlike other international players who may take a more transactional stance, Brussels aims to support the Democratic Republic of Congo without exploiting its resources.
He also advised President Tshisekedi to consider local initiatives in the resolution of the crisis.
