Zimbabwe has formally submitted its application to join BRICS, as announced by Foreign Minister Amon Murwira during his visit to Moscow on Thursday. At a news conference alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Murwira underscored Zimbabwe’s dedication to fulfilling the membership criteria set by BRICS.
“BRICS represents a significant platform for economic collaboration founded on the principles of mutual respect and the sovereign equality of nations,” Murwira remarked. “Zimbabwe stands to gain from any framework that honors these essential principles of human interaction and progress, and BRICS embodies such a framework.”
He indicated that Zimbabwe is actively working to align itself with BRICS’ requirements and is currently awaiting feedback from the group, which will be based on internal consensus.
The BRICS coalition, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has been broadening its reach, with numerous countries showing interest in joining. Zimbabwe’s application reflects its strategic objective to strengthen economic relationships and global partnerships within this alliance.
