Nigerian afrobeat artist David Adeleke, widely recognized as “Davido,” has indicated that his highly anticipated December concert in Nigeria may face cancellation due to his controversial comments regarding the nation’s economy.
The singer garnered significant attention after his appearance on the American podcast Big Homies House, where he advised Americans against moving to Africa, particularly Nigeria.
Davido characterized the state of the Nigerian economy as being in “shambles,” a remark that triggered considerable backlash from Nigerians both domestically and internationally.
In response to his comments, notable figures such as Joe Igbokwe and Reno Omokri publicly condemned his statements, accusing him of damaging Nigeria’s reputation on a global scale.

In light of the criticism, Davido defended his stance by asserting that entertainers serve as the country’s “real ambassadors.” He expressed his sentiments on his X account, stating, “Yall mad cus we the real ambassadors!” Amid the ongoing controversy, he disclosed that there are threats to cancel his performance in Lagos as a consequence of his interview.
