Mozambique’s leading opposition figure, Venancio Mondlane, reported that he underwent a 10-hour interrogation by prosecutors on Tuesday.
During this extensive questioning regarding the protests that erupted after last October’s elections, he stated that he was not informed of the specific charges prompting the inquiry.
Mondlane, who asserts he won the disputed election, mentioned that he is currently under judicial supervision.
Multiple international observer groups have indicated that the election was marred by irregularities.
This situation led to over two months of protests and blockades, resulting in more than 300 fatalities.

Mondlane is implicated in eight cases initiated by the public prosecutor’s office related to the demonstrations.
While most of these cases involve allegations of vandalism, he also faces charges of ‘subversion and disturbance of public order.’
Supporters gathered outside the venue of his questioning, but reports indicate that police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
