Approximately 70 individuals lost their lives in an assault on a hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, as reported by the World Health Organization on Sunday. The attack specifically targeted the Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital, with local authorities attributing responsibility to the rebel faction known as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
This tragic event occurs amid escalating civil conflict in Sudan, where the RSF appears to be facing significant setbacks against the Sudanese military. On Saturday, army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan was seen near a burning oil refinery north of Khartoum, which his forces claimed to have captured from the RSF.
In response to the attack, Saudi Arabia condemned the act, labeling it a breach of international law.
Additionally, South Sudan has implemented a suspension of access to social media platforms for a minimum of 30 days, following the dissemination of videos purportedly depicting the killings of South Sudanese citizens in Sudan. This measure is intended to mitigate the risk of further violence and unrest within South Sudan.
