Several African nationals were among those injured after an Iranian missile strike hit the United Arab Emirates, according to a statement from Abu Dhabi’s Ministry of Defence shared on social media.
The ministry said three people from Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh — were killed in the weekend attack. A further 58 people suffered minor injuries, including nationals from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Egypt and several Asian countries.
Iran has fired dozens of ballistic missiles at the UAE since Saturday, following the start of a joint bombing campaign against the Islamic Republic by Israel and the United States.
Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and multiple US military installations in the region, including bases in the UAE.
The escalating conflict has also disrupted international travel across the Middle East, leaving many foreign nationals stranded. Major airspace corridors and flight routes have been closed, including in Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi key transit hubs linking Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.
With airlines reviewing flight paths and governments closely monitoring the security situation, thousands of travellers remain in limbo as they wait for regional airspace to fully reopen.
