Seven irregular migrants from sub-Saharan Africa were discovered dead on a beach in Qasr Al-Akhyar, east of Tripoli, the Libyan Red Crescent reported on Sunday.
Among the victims were three children, and authorities warned there could be additional bodies yet to be recovered. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
The bodies were found on Saturday night in the coastal town, approximately 73 kilometers (45 miles) from Tripoli. Libya serves as a major transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe, and fatalities along these routes are common.
According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 2,100 irregular migrants died or went missing while crossing the Mediterranean to Europe last year.
