Achraf Hakimi has said he is set to face trial following a rape allegation made against him in France.
A 24-year-old woman has accused the Paris Saint-Germain defender of raping her at his home in Paris in 2023. Hakimi has denied the accusation.
The prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a western suburb of the French capital, opened a preliminary investigation in March 2023. While no date has been announced for the trial, the case is now expected to proceed to court.
In a post on X, Hakimi said: “Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
BBC Sport has contacted the Nanterre prosecutor’s office for further comment.
The 27-year-old right-back, who was born in Spain but represents Morocco internationally, has made 194 appearances for PSG. Last season, he helped the club secure both the Champions League and Ligue 1 titles.
Hakimi was recently honoured at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris, where he was named in the FIFPro men’s world team of the year. He also played a pivotal role in Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, becoming the first African nation to reach that stage of the tournament.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Hakimi was included in PSG’s squad for their upcoming Champions League knockout round play-off second leg against Monaco.
