Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Friday met with the commander of Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, at State House in Entebbe, urging dialogue as the only viable path to ending Sudan’s protracted conflict.
The high-level meeting focused on efforts to halt the war between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, a conflict that erupted nearly three years ago and has since evolved into one of the world’s gravest humanitarian crises.
Museveni reiterated that lasting peace in Sudan cannot be secured through military victory but through inclusive political dialogue. He stressed the importance of African-led solutions to address the continent’s challenges.
The Ugandan leader has been appointed by the African Union to head a committee tasked with facilitating direct negotiations between Dagalo and Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
During the talks, Dagalo acknowledged the worsening humanitarian and institutional breakdown in Sudan and underscored the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
The visit marked Dagalo’s first public international appearance since June 2025, when he was seen in a video addressing RSF fighters in Darfur.
Efforts to broker ceasefires have repeatedly collapsed. On Thursday, al-Burhan said he would reject a humanitarian truce proposed by the International Quad and the United States unless RSF forces withdraw from cities and military positions they have seized
