Nigeria will look to complete a flawless Group C campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations when they take on Uganda in their final group match on Tuesday, having already secured qualification for the knockout stages.
The Super Eagles began their tournament with a 2–1 win over Tanzania and then delivered a thrilling 3–2 victory against Tunisia, surging into a three-goal advantage before holding off a late fightback. Those results have placed Nigeria at the top of the group with six points from two games.
Head coach Éric Chelle has kept his squad away from distractions by basing preparations in the Moroccan city of Fez, a decision he believes has sharpened the team’s focus. Chelle said the quiet setting has helped the players concentrate fully on their objectives and match preparations.
With progression assured, Nigeria are expected to rotate their lineup as they seek to preserve energy while maintaining momentum ahead of the knockout phase.
Uganda, however, head into the match under pressure. They were beaten by Tunisia in their opening game before settling for a draw against Tanzania, a match that saw them miss a crucial penalty in the closing moments. To stay in contention, Uganda must defeat Nigeria and rely on Tunisia failing to beat Tanzania.
Despite the odds, Uganda coach Paul Put remains hopeful, acknowledging Nigeria’s quality while insisting his team still has a chance. As Nigeria chase a perfect group record, Uganda will be battling to keep their tournament hopes alive in a decisive Group C clash.
