Nigeria’s Super Falcons staged a remarkable turnaround to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 on Saturday 26 July 2025 in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final, securing their 10th championship win in 13 editions a feat they proudly called “Mission X.”
The match in Rabat saw Morocco surge ahead with two goals inside the first 24 minutes, thrilling the packed crowd at the 21,000 seat Stade Olympique. Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy delivered early strikes that rattled the Nigerian defense, who had until then gone unscored upon in open play throughout the tournament.
Despite trailing at halftime and struggling to finish chances, Nigeria found their spark in the second half. Esther Okoronkwo led the charge, converting a penalty following a VAR confirmed handball, then assisting Folashade Ijamilusi to level the score just seven minutes later.
With the momentum firmly on their side, substitute Jennifer Echegini sealed the dramatic comeback in the 88th minute, slotting home a winner off Okoronkwo’s free-kick and silencing the roaring Moroccan supporters.
Morocco, once again heartbreakingly second best after also falling short in the previous final, were left ruing a missed opportunity to claim their first title.
