Following the devastating effects of Cyclone CHIDO on the Comoros archipelago, especially in Mayotte, President Azali Assoumani has expressed his solidarity with the impacted communities.
In addressing the aftermath of Cyclone Chido, President Assoumani stated, “The most important aspect is that there were no fatalities, which is a significant relief. Material losses can occur at any time, regardless of cyclones. Our priority now is to assist those who have experienced damage on the islands.”
In an official communication, he extended his condolences to those mourning the loss of family members in Mayotte and wished for a swift recovery for the injured.
“I wish to convey our sincere sympathy and solidarity to our Mahorais brothers during this challenging period.”
He acknowledged the resilience of the people as they confront the extensive devastation caused by the cyclone, expressing confidence that the Mahorans will tackle this adversity with resolve.
The president assured that the Union of Comoros would support Mayotte in its reconstruction and humanitarian initiatives.
He urged for a collaborative effort to meet the urgent needs of those affected and encouraged local organizations to participate in relief activities.
Additionally, he appealed for assistance from the international community during this crisis.
As damage evaluations are being conducted, the Union of Comoros is prepared to offer all necessary support to help Mayotte navigate this challenging time.
