Morocco lifted the Arab Cup on Thursday night after a hard-fought victory over Jordan in Qatar, sparking scenes of celebration across the capital, Rabat. Jubilant fans quickly turned their attention to the next challenge on the horizon: the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hundreds of supporters poured into Mohamed V Avenue on Thursday evening, transforming it into a sea of red and green as they celebrated another major trophy for the national team.
The triumph adds to an impressive run for the Atlas Lions, who won the African Nations Championship in August and the Under-20 World Cup in October. Their latest success came after a tense and dramatic final against Jordan.
While the match took place in Doha where 16 teams, including six from Africa, competed cafés and public spaces in Morocco were packed as fans watched the game unfold.
Morocco struck first with an early goal, but Jordan responded strongly in the second half, scoring twice to take the lead. Anxiety spread among supporters before a late surge from the Moroccan side.
“In the first half we played well. At the start of the second half we were scared, but we trust the coach and the team,” said one fan.
That confidence paid off when Morocco equalized in the 89th minute before Abderrazak Hamdallah scored the decisive goal in extra time, sealing a 3–2 victory.
As celebrations continued late into the night, many fans voiced a shared ambition: after the Arab Cup, the Africa Cup is next.
