Egypt and Nigeria are putting the finishing touches on their preparations ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly in Cairo, their final outing before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations gets underway this weekend.
The Egyptian national team trained on Monday as they geared up for the clash, which serves as a last warm-up before the continental tournament kicks off on Sunday. Seven-time African champions Egypt will fly to host nation Morocco immediately after the match to begin their AFCON campaign preparations. They have been drawn in a group with Zimbabwe, South Africa and Angola, and will open their tournament against Zimbabwe on 22 December.
Nigeria also held training sessions on Monday, focusing on sharpening tactics ahead of both the friendly and the upcoming championship. Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to experiment with his starting line-up, with several key players yet to join the squad. Among the notable absentees are Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen and Paris FC winger Moses Simon.
The Super Eagles will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania, with all of their group matches scheduled to take place in Fez.
The Africa Cup of Nations runs from 21 December to 18 January.
