The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy was unveiled in London on Thursday, marking the start of its international tour ahead of next month’s tournament.
Known as the Morocco 2025 Diaspora Tour, the showcase aims to celebrate African football culture and will make stops in London, Paris, and Tokyo. Among the notable attendees was former Kenyan international Victor Wanyama, who reflected on the demanding path teams take to reach the continental stage.
“You go through a lot; it’s not easy. It takes great effort, both physically and technically, to reach that level… African football is incredibly competitive, and both players and teams are deeply committed,” Wanyama said.
AFCON returns this December with Morocco preparing to host the continent’s premier football event. The tournament kicks off on December 21, 2025, and concludes on January 18, 2026. Matches will take place across Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, and Agadir, showcasing the best of African talent and unity.
Wanyama also highlighted the rising competitiveness across the continent, pointing to teams like Madagascar, which have recently emerged as strong contenders.
The tournament is set to feature some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Senegal’s Sadio Mané, Morocco’s captain Achraf Hakimi, and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah. Emerging talents such as Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Ghana’s Mohammed Kudus are also expected to make a significant impact.
