Namibia’s President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has dismissed Mac-Albert Hengari from his position as Agriculture Minister.
In a statement released on X, the presidency noted that this decision was made under the authority granted to the President by Article 32(6) of the Namibian Constitution.
The announcement comes in the wake of Hengari’s arrest on Saturday, where he faces serious allegations including rape, gender-based violence, and kidnapping, as reported by local media.

There are conflicting accounts regarding his departure, with Hengari claiming he resigned voluntarily, although he refrained from providing further details.
Allegations against him include the rape of a 21-year-old woman and an attempt to bribe her to retract her complaint from the previous year.
Hengari had only recently been appointed to the ministerial role in March, following his selection as one of President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s top parliamentary candidates.
Investigations into these serious allegations are currently ongoing.
