Hundreds of Somalis convened at the Peace Garden in Mogadishu to express their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Many attendees waved Palestinian flags and held signs that read “Gaza is not for sale” and “Somalis stand with Palestine.”
They voiced their disapproval of Trump’s proposal suggesting that Gazans should relocate to countries such as Egypt and Jordan.
Protester Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed commented, “Our brothers in Palestine have endured continuous suffering, and for President Trump to propose that Gazans should move elsewhere is a complete trap. Trump seeks to ensnare Muslims in Gaza, and that is why we are here; we will not accept this.”
The gathering in Mogadishu underscores the increasing regional dissent against Trump’s position on Gaza, along with widespread calls for international support for Palestinians.
Sheikh Abdi Hayyi, one of the protest organizers, stated, “Trump’s decision is ironic and undermines justice. It aligns with aggressors and violates the rights of those who have fought for independence for many years.
Rather than supporting their quest for freedom, he opposes them and backs their adversary, urging them to leave their homeland. This is something we cannot accept, and as Somalis, we view this as a serious injustice.”
Trump has issued an executive order permitting economic and travel sanctions against individuals involved in International Criminal Court (ICC) investigations related to US citizens or allies, including Israel.
