In recognition of Festus Keyamo (SAN) as a pivotal figure in the transformation of Nigeria’s aviation and aerospace industry, successfully navigating significant challenges to revitalize a sector that has faced prolonged decline, africa24hrs has crowned him the best performing Minister in Africa for the year 2024.

Upon taking office, Nigeria’s aviation sector was in a vulnerable position, beset by inefficiencies, safety issues, and numerous grievances from both operators and passengers. He swiftly recognized the critical nature of the situation and launched a comprehensive plan to tackle the various challenges confronting the industry. His initial action involved engaging with all relevant stakeholders—airline operators, regulatory agencies, and industry specialists—to conduct an in-depth evaluation of the sector’s difficulties.

Through his proactive approach, Minister Keyamo successfully united key industry players to pinpoint urgent challenges and formulate effective solutions. Under his leadership, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) undertook the essential task of revalidating all airline operators, ensuring compliance with rigorous global standards. This initiative not only improved safety measures but also restored public trust in air travel. His tenure has been defined by a resolute dedication to reform, even when faced with resistance. Certain industry stakeholders attempted to undermine his initiatives, apprehensive about the implications of his strict policies aimed at eliminating corruption and inefficiency.

Keyamo remained steadfast in his commitment to reforming the aviation sector, emphasizing that he would not waver in his vision. His assertion that he would “not mind whose ox is gored” resonated as a powerful call for accountability and integrity within the industry. This firm position has cultivated a culture of compliance, urging industry stakeholders to uphold ethical standards. A significant achievement during his tenure has been his success in securing essential international routes for Nigerian airlines. His negotiation skills were particularly highlighted by the establishment of the Lagos-London route for Air Peace and other carriers.

This development not only enabled Nigerian airlines to enhance their market presence but also resulted in considerable foreign exchange savings for the nation. By bolstering the operational capabilities of local airlines, Keyamo ensured that Nigeria’s flag was prominently displayed on the global stage, attracting interest from potential investors who recognize the country’s burgeoning aviation opportunities.

Beyond route expansion, he has actively championed public-private partnerships to improve airport infrastructure and operational efficiency. He has made it a priority to enhance facilities, ensuring that airports are both functional and welcoming to passengers. His initiatives to collaborate with aviation leaders like Boeing and Airbus have opened doors for Nigeria to pursue advantageous leasing agreements that had previously been out of reach due to systemic challenges. A notable achievement occurred during his negotiations at the Cape Town Convention, where Nigeria was officially designated as a safe destination for aircraft leasing. The Aviation Working Group, co-chaired by Boeing and Airbus, significantly improved Nigeria’s compliance rating from 49 to an impressive 70.5, underscoring the nation’s dedication to meeting international leasing standards.

The recent enhancement of credibility has inspired confidence among global investors and lessors, making them more willing to invest in Nigeria’s aviation industry. He has directed the NCAA to refine its regulatory framework, especially the International Registry of Mobile Assets (IDERA), to better align with international standards. This strategic initiative is designed to further increase investor confidence and create a more favorable environment for lessors. As he diligently works to position Nigeria as a leading aviation hub in Africa, his vision encompasses more than just revitalizing the sector; he is dedicated to establishing an ecosystem that encourages investment, boosts tourism, and ultimately fosters economic growth.

By enacting comprehensive reforms and improving Nigeria’s standing in global aviation, he has revitalized a struggling industry and positioned it as a crucial element of the nation’s economic framework.

In conclusion, his role as Minister for Aviation and Aerospace Development marks a significant transformation for Nigeria’s aviation sector. Through a combination of visionary leadership, steadfast determination, and strategic collaborations, he has set the stage for a dynamic and competitive aviation industry that is poised to benefit the country for many years ahead.

Africa24hrs management and staff thereby congratulate him for this milestone achievement, and pray the Almighty God will bless him with strength and good health for him to continue his services to the country, aviation industry and humanity in general.

Certification presented to the Honorable Minister of Aviation to Nigeria, Festus Keyamo (SAN) for his great vision and repositioning of the industry in Nigeria and Africa in general.
