A fierce wildfire has swept through the Amelay forest in Morocco’s Chefchaouen province, blanketing the region in thick smoke and threatening nearby communities. Fueled by soaring temperatures and strong winds, the blaze has prompted an urgent response from firefighting teams across the country.

Canadair aircraft have been conducting continuous water drops over the affected area, while ground crews including Civil Protection units, the Royal Gendarmerie, and Auxiliary Forces work around the clock to contain the inferno. “All branches of the armed forces, along with other authorities and firefighters, have joined forces to contain and reduce the blaze,” said one official, highlighting the challenges posed by extreme heat.

Authorities have evacuated homes near the forest as a precautionary measure. Residents described the scene as unlike anything they’ve witnessed before. “Authorities have done everything possible to tackle this immense fire, and we are grateful that no human casualties have been reported,” one local shared.
Emergency teams remain on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to prevent further spread. With temperatures expected to stay high, Morocco continues to face elevated wildfire risk in the days ahead.
