Nineteen people were killed on Friday in a devastating road accident in Egypt’s Menofia Governorate, local officials confirmed.
The crash occurred when a truck collided with a minibus carrying workers along a regional road in Ashmoun city. According to the labor ministry, only three individuals survived the collision, which left the vehicle completely destroyed.
All victims, including the injured, were transported to Ashmoun General Hospital for treatment, local media reported.
In response, Labor Minister Mohamed Gebran announced compensation for the victims’ families 200,000 Egyptian pounds (approx. $4,010) for each deceased and 20,000 pounds (approx. $400) for the injured. He also directed authorities to expedite support for those affected.

Menofia Governor Ibrahim Abu Leimon launched an immediate investigation into the cause of the accident and urged the Ministry of Transportation to reassess road safety measures in the area, as reported by Al-Masry Al-Youm.
Deadly traffic accidents are tragically common in Egypt, claiming thousands of lives annually. Experts attribute many of these incidents to speeding, deteriorating infrastructure, and weak enforcement of traffic laws.
